HAMMER TOE

Middle joint of the toe is bent.
If the distal joint is also bent you have claw toes.

Treatment

If suffering from moderate pain - silicone supports between the toes.
Its advisable to have an operation in the early stages as the recovery is better and the surgery is not as complicated. Operations are performed under local anesthetic and the patient will need postsurgical shoes.

BUNION

Large bump on the big toe joint.
This can also affect the smaller toes.

Treatment

An operation is recommended before it becomes painful or affects the other toes. The smaller the bump the less invasive the surgery and with better results.
The operation is done under local anesthetic after which the patient has to wear postsurgical shoes for 10 to 15 days.
